What you should do about your urinating in public ticket in Scottsdale

Have you received a ticket for Urinating in Public in Scottsdale?

Last week, a prosecutor asked my office how we receive so many urinating in public cases out of Scottsdale.  It’s really not a secret.  Because we are good at what we do, every year, countless clients will hire us to help with their UIP cases.  If you have received a ticket, the first thing you need to remember is, this is not the end of the world.  Handling these types of cases is second nature for us – we will help you out.

The first court appearances on your ticket is an arraignment.  You only need to attend the arraignment if you do not hire an attorney.  It will be a complete waste of your time to attend this hearing, as the judge will plead you not guilty and set your case for a second hearing in about a month.

If you hire a lawyer, whether it’s my office or any other office, the court will automatically set it for the second hearing. The second hearing is called a pretrial conference.  It’s a conference in a sense that I will have the opportunity to sit down with the prosecutor to explain the situation, let them know this is a one time occurrence, you are not a criminal and should not have a criminal record for something as simple as peeing in public.

If you are confused about this, let me be clear – urinating in public is a criminal offense. If you plead guilty, you will have a criminal conviction on your record.  If you have a criminal conviction on your record, you may be prevented from getting your dream job.  Plus, it will be incredibly embarrassing telling the world you have you been convicted of urinating in public.

Don’t Pay the Fine!

Also, don’t be fooled by the court saying that all you have to do is pay a fine. By paying a fine, you are admitting guilt and you will be convicted of urinating in public. You could end up with a criminal conviction for the rest of your life for paying a $300 fine.  It may seem like by paying the fine you’re getting a slap on the wrist and you can move on with life.  DON’T FALL FOR IT!
